Without any doubts, it is safe to say that the zombies are back on the TV screen and they are back with a vengeance. The story of the world in a post-apocalyptic scenario has been packed in a wonderfully horrid, gory and blood-soaked package. And it works, rather splendidly!

The Walking Dead is a zombie-infested horror-drama series, with a radically different perspective on the post-apocalyptic zombie infestation on earth. Now, the zombie storyline has been done to death over the years in countless movies. So what is so special about this show?

Well for starters, there are zombies; in fact there are a lot of zombies. Following the troupe of the undead, are a handful of human survivors. There is everything in the show, be it blood, gore, drama or emotion. The biggest compliment of the show is the perfect dosage of each and every element.

The Walking Dead begins in a unique stalemate for the previously comatose Police Officer, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln). Unable to recall anything about his past except his wife Lori (Sarah Wayne Collies) and his son Carl (Chandler Riggs), Rick gets wary of the abandoned town. That is, until Rick realizes that the city is under zombie infestation. Rick reaches his home and finds that his wife and son are missing. Rocked by the realization that they could be dead or even turned into zombies, Rick sets out on a quest to find them.

And that is where the series catches the eyes of the viewers and keeps them glued to the screens. Rick is immediately chased by ‘walkers’ or zombies. However, he’s saved by a father and son duo, and from them, Rick learns that the government has set up a safe-zone in Georgia.

The story takes off with Rick going to look for his wife and kid, armed with only a walkie-talkie and a handful of guns. There are countless rude and sometimes, downright bloody surprises awaiting Rick on his journey. Season 1 of The Walking Dead is about Rick, his family and about tales of bravery and survival amid the hordes of zombies. It couldn’t get any better!
