‘The Real World’ is not just another reality show; it is a show that created a new genre of reality shows and has become a great obsession in America. ‘The Real World’ premiered on MTV on 21st May 1992 and is one of the longest running reality series on American television. The executive producers of the series are Mary-Ellis Bunim and Jonathan Murray, though it was taken over by Bunim/Murray Productions after Bunim died in 2004.

The basic premise of the show consists of eight people who are selected by the producers from different backgrounds and countries. They are then put together to live in a house full of camera’s, for several weeks. The audiences are then shown the highlights of the spontaneous, unscripted interactions among the eight strangers with each another and the world around them. Every year the show moves to a new city, attracting hundreds of thousands of people who hope to be chosen as one of the participants. While on the show, participants make new friends, develop relationships and at times acquire enemies too.
