The Pillars of the Earth is a mini-series that is concluded in eight episodes. It is based on a novel of the same name written by Ken Follett. This mini-series, which is based on the construction of a cathedral in the mid 12th century, premiered on July 23, 2010 on Starz. It also won a nomination in the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards.

The Pillars of the Earth takes places at the time of war, when there is a conflict in religions everywhere. People at higher authority are fighting for power, ignoring the miseries that have been occurring because of this. There are tears everywhere and families are been torn apart. At such a crucial time, the building of a splendid cathedral takes place in Kingsbridge (fictional town). While the harshness continues to hold the power, love stories also interweave in the background.

The doubt over the crown’s successor brings King Henry I's daughter and his nephew on the edge of competition. Lady Aliena refuses to tie knot with William Hamleigh. Therefore, William Hamleigh entrusts Tom Builder with the responsibility of constructing his house, which harms Tom’s family. Tom’s wife, Agnes dies after giving birth to their child, so they move to the Shiring Castle. Unfortunately, Hamleigh attacks the place in order to take revenge for the refusal.

While Tom and Ellen move towards the Kingsbridge Priory, Tom’s child is adopted by a monk. The Kingsbridge church is destructed by a fire, which ultimately gives a chance to Tom, Alfred and Jack to construct a cathedral. Ultimately, the dream of Tom to have a cathedral overflowing with light turns true. Kingsbridge yet again becomes a flourishing place to live. After ten years, the fascination of Jack for the cathedral leaves him with no energy and time to spend on any other thing. Moreover, Aliena gets married to Alfred, a man whom she doesn’t like.
