Skins

Skins is a teen drama, which showcases the life and issues of Bristol teenagers. It first aired on January 25, 2007 on E4 and successfully broadcasted five seasons showing three generations and is up for season six. Skins is created by Jamie Brittain and Bryan Elsley. The show mainly deals with the problems concerning teenagers, such as mental sickness, eating disorders, issues concerning sexual orientation etc.

Nicholas Hoult plays the character of Tony Stonem, who is an intelligent and famous guy. Tony’s best buddy Sid Jenkins (Mike Bailey) has a personality totally contrary to Tony’s. Unlike Tony, he lacks self-confidence and remains uneasy most of the time. April Pearson plays Michelle Richardson, Tony’s girlfriend, who is never furious over the activities of her boyfriend, and instead behaves maturely. Her friend Cassie Ainsworth (Hannah Murray) has an eating disorder and her parents don’t pay much attention to her because of their new baby.

Another teenager in Bristol is Chris Miles (Joe Dempsie), who has a hard life at home. His mother is missing and brother died due to hereditary subarachnoid hemorrhage, and he doesn’t share a great relationship with his father. He stays alone and parties hard. In season one; these teenagers struggle to cope-up with the mounting issues in their lives.

Season two gives a closer view to the ambition of Maxxie, who aspires to become a dancer. Sketch becomes physically involved with Anwar. Chris cheats on his fiancée with his psychology teacher Angie. In the same season, Chris dies because of subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Season three introduces many new characters like James Cook (Jack O'Connell), Katie (Megan Prescott), JJ Jones (Ollie Barbieri), Freddie Mclair (Luke Pasqualino and Emily Fitch (Kathryn Prescott), showcasing their lives and the troubles surrounding them. Season four and season five further highlight teen issues. Many things take place like Nick and Liv’s affair, Grace’s attraction towards Rich but her wrong decision to get physically involved with her boyfriend etc. The show continues by throwing light on love, dating, marriage, suicide and other subjects concerning teens.
