Saving Grace tells the story of Grace Hanadarko, played by Holly Hunter. She is depicted as a prolific drinker, who spends a lonesome life. She works as an Oklahoma City detective. Season one starts with an accident where Grace hits a person with her car. In desperation, she calls out to God for help. An angel, Earl (Leon Rippy), emerges and suggests that she should devote her life to God. When he departs, Grace finds out that the man she hit (Leon Cooley as Bokeem), has also disappeared. She doesn’t lead an ethical life, and this fact annoys Earl, who comes regularly to meet her. Though Grace does not have a family, she likes the company of her partner Ham (Kenny Johnson). Extremely good at her job, she is exceptional at dealing with homicide cases. The team of detectives includes Butch Ada (Bailey Chase) and Captain Kate Perry (Lorraine) among many. Most of the seasons of Saving Grace depict Grace’s caring and generous behavior. She loves Clay (her nephew) and showers him with attention. But it’s largely her self-destructive behavior, and Earl’s continuous attempt at making her turn towards God for help, that surrounds the show. The TV series depicts a person’s dying interest towards faith, belief and God. Through Grace and Earl, the show tries to send a message that problem can be resolved with faith and love. Season two saw Grace dealing with disapproval from Nick, played by Conley. He is brother to Ham and does not approve of her relationship with his brother. At times, even Clay enquires Grace about her relationship with Ham, as he is a married man. Saving Grace is an engrossing crime show that has subtle doses of faith, belief and attitude. Holly appeared on small screen for the very first time and won several awards for her performance in the show. Other lead stars also enacted their roles wonderfully, earning critical acclaim. | |||||||||||||||||
