Project Runway is a reality TV show, based on the glamour-filled world of fashion. Hosted by the super model Heidi Klum, the show features 17 fashion designers who compete for the title of being the ‘kings and queens’ of the ramp.

Project Runway aims to showcase the fresh talent of America in the field of apparel designing. Fashion designers from across the country go through a gruel series of rounds, which tests their creativity on a variety of themes and situations. The designers are assigned models in the first episode, whereas from the second episode onwards, the designers can choose their own models. They are given a task, week after week, which they have to complete in a stipulated time and within a restricted budget.

The format of Project Runway is very fair and real. All the designers stay away from their families in apartments, segregated on the basis of gender. They are not allowed to have any contact with the outside world through phones or the Internet, throughout the show. The co-anchor and mentor of the designers is Tim Gunn. A group of renowned people in the world of fashion constitutes the panel of judges for the show. The judges rate the creations of the designers on a scale of 0 to 5 and also give their comments and advices to the contestants. One or more designers are eliminated every week. This process leads to the final short-listing of three finalists.

The three finalists get to prepare for an entire fashion week with twelve different looks. This fashion week features on the New York fashion show. The winner gets prize money of $100,000 and a special feature in leading fashion magazines like Elle or Marie Claire. During the eight-season run of the series, many winners have made their names in the field of fashion designing. The eighth season’s winners also received a technology-suite worth $50,000 from HP.

The judges in season 8 were Nina Garcia, the fashion director of ‘Marie Claire’ and Michael Kors, a famous American designer. So, experience the thrill of the fashion world at Project Runway!
