Lip Service started airing on October 12, 2010 and broached the subject of lesbianism to some extremely rave reviews. The plot of Lip Service largely circles three women – Cat, Frankie and Tess. Frankie leads the show with most of the suspense revolving around the letter left to her. The series started with Frankie arriving to Glasgow, to look into the contents the letter dealt with. Her aunt left the note to her, just before dying. It is shown that she has returned to Glasgow after two years, which has put Cat in a state of tremendous joy. They both were in a relationship. Although Cat is excited to meet her, she nonetheless pretends that she has moved on with her new girlfriend Sam, a police inspector. The lives of these women are interwoven, and, now and then, their lives collide. Tess wants to achieve stardom, but is mostly hampered by her inconsistent behavior. Her acts are very unpredictable, and often find her in the company of bad women. Frankie, on the other hand, strikes a perfect balance between her relationships with both men and women. She likes dating men and uses them as bait, to help herself get out of her self-infested, ironic life. She can’t continue with a relationship for long and frequently changes partners. They are all best friends, but Tess and Cat are closer as they live together. Harriet Braun’s Lip Service narrates the lives of lesbian women in the contemporary Glasgow. In a place that is modern in every respect, this concept is well put and establishes the theme very well. The screenplay is very neatly written and the lead cast of Ruta, Fiona and Laura has done an exceptional job. | |||||||||||||||||||||
