The NBC channel decided to came up with the sequel of Knight Rider, the 1982 original series, with a same name. The sequel to Knight Rider premiered on September 24, 2008. The story of this Knight Rider revolves around the life and works of the son of Michael Knight, Mike Knight.

Mike Knight becomes of the driver of this new car KITT (Knight Industries Three Thousand), after he comes to know that he is the son of Michael Knight. The car is designed by Dr. Charles Graiman, the same man who also designed the car that his father used to drive KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand).

Mike then joins the team of Dr. Charles Graiman and his daughter Sarah Graiman, and fights crime in the city, just like his father, with the help of his car KITT. The other members of the team are Carrie Rivai and Alex Torres, who work as FBI consultants and Billy Morgan and Zoe Chae who help the team by providing technical support.
