King of the Hill

From the creator of the iconic Beavis and Butt-head animation series, Mike Judge’s second offering is equally renowned and impressive, if not better. Mike took the inspiration for the King of the Hill show from his own life. As a result, King of the Hill became one of the longest running animated shows that has been universally lauded for its realistic portrayal of modern life and its ironies.

King of the Hill is about the trials and tribulations of the Hill family, and its patriarch, Hank Hill. Hank is one of your average Joes, living with his wife Peggy and their 13 year old son, Bobby. Hank’s father, Cotton, is a retired Army general and lives with Hank and his family.

The reasons for this show’s huge popularity and a telecast span of 13 seasons are the witty dialogues and the brilliant portrayal of inter-relationship between Hank, his family members and his colleagues. But the biggest reason is the different shades that every character occupies.

Hank, for example, is shown to be obsessed with his garden and is constantly fussing over the minor details; even the smallest bits and patches don’t escape his attention. He is also fixated with the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Longhorns, which more often than not causes friction between Hank and Peggy.

Peggy Hill works as a Spanish teacher, despite her rather poor control over the language. She has a very high estimation of her intelligence and beauty, something that often puts her in disconcerting situations.

Adding to this comical mélange is their son Bobby, who is a little different from other kids around him. He is fat, hasn’t hit puberty yet, and happens to have a very high opinion of himself. Bobby has a knack of getting into tricky situations, and mostly it’s his father, Hank, who happens to be on the receiving end of his troubles.

King of the Hill is a family comedy, a show which every father, mother and child can relate to. The whacky sense of humor is a welcome bonus.
