The era of new age teen comedies got a boost with Nickelodeon’s series about a teenage girl named Carly. The show’s title is a bit intriguing, iCarly, with the ‘I’ standing for the internet. The show is about this girl Carly (Miranda Cosgrove), who is the host of her own web show. She is your average teen-aged girl; vibrant, funny and intelligent, who gets along well with her friends at school. Carly lives with her elder brother, Spencer, as their father is stationed away from them with the Air Force. Carly spends most of her time with her gal-pal, Sam (Jenette McCurdy). And this show is primarily about Carly and her friends. iCarly begins as Carly takes the heat for one of Sam’s pranks and is asked to hold the auditions for their school’s talent show. Carly and Sam call their friend Freddie to help them out with the auditions. Freddie (Nathan Kress) is a tech-savvy boy, but is constantly at loggerheads with Sam, as she constantly teases him and makes fun of him at every opportunity possible. But Freddie happens to have taken a shine to Carly and helps them out with the auditions. As it turns out, Carly’s audition tapes are rejected by their teacher. Down but not out, Carly decides to start her own web show called as iCarly. With Freddie’s help, Carly and Sam tape their talk show and put it up for their colleagues in the school to see. At first their show is able to catch the fancy of the school, and then its popularity spreads all over the internet. Season 1 also sees a flurry of crushes, primarily the one between Freddie and Carly. Freddie has a crush on her but she does not reciprocate his feelings, but in season 3 their relationship goes further when Freddie saves her from an accident. The innocence and the reckless abandon of youth catches the eyes of the viewers and makes you wish that you’re one of them, and therein lies the USP of iCarly. | |||||||||||||||||
