‘Homicide Life on the Street’ was a police procedural series that aired on American television on NBC network from January 31, 1993 to May 21, 1999. The series was developed and created by Paul Attanasio.
‘Homicide Life on the Street’ was one show of its own kind in the 90’s. The show was very popular during that time because of one fact that it was shot with handheld cameras on location and offered gun shots and car chases, which was not very common during the 90’s. The series basically was based on a book called “Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets,” by David Simon. The writer of the book had actually spent a year with the members of Baltimore’s homicide unit and then written the book. Most of the characters and incidents that were shown in the series were inspired from the book. With this kind of series coming on air, the audiences became familiar with a new kind of genre in drama. The series was a glimpse into the lives of a squad of inner-city detectives and was very close to the ground reality.
