Flashpoint is the creation of Mark Ellis and Stephanie Morgenstern. It was broadcasted for the first time on July 11, 2008. The show is aired on CBS in the United States of America and on CTV in Canada. Flashpoint is centred on a team of cops who are completely different from the usual stereotypical policemen.

They possess the acumen of soldiers and are courageous enough to take it all, if demanded by the situation. Heinous criminals who are loaded with ammunitions are considered as rats by this Strategic Response Unit of the Canadian police department. When things go completely out of control, the authorities hand over the cases to this fearless unit, for they know that the unit is completely professional and well equipped at negotiations as well as at bringing down the criminals.

The Strategic Response Unit comprises of 5 groups of extraordinarily courageous team members. However, only one of the five teams is shown in Flashpoint TV series. These bold men come to rescue of the nation as and when assigned the corresponding job responsibilities by their higher authorities. From hunting down robbers to homicide bombers, they spare no one. The Emergency Task Force division of the Toronto Police Service is the department which the SRU takes inspiration from.

The SRU is led by Ed Lane, a cop who rules them all when it comes to arriving at a negotiation with criminals. He doesn’t need to give the use of violence a thought before actually doing so. But at the same time, he is shown as a person who considers the use of arms as the last resort when nothing else works. His work often comes in the path of his personal life, making his wife feel that he prefers work over his family.

Other members of the team include Greg Parker, Juliana Callaghan, Lewis Young and Kevin Wordsworth, among others. The series has completed 3 successful seasons and has been able to build a huge fan following.
