Inspired from Nelson Johnson’s book named ‘Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times and Corruption of Atlantic City’, Boardwalk Empire is a period drama series that reminds us of the world during the 1920’s and the 1930’s. The show is created by Terence Winter who also executively produces the show along with Martin Scorsese, Mark Wahlberg, Tim Van Patten and Steven Levinson. Boardwalk Empire is In the early nineteenth century, when the Atlantic City of New Jersey was in prohibition, a man named Enoch L. Johnson emerged as a criminal kingpin. The show is based on this phenomenal period in history. Steve Buscemi portrays the character of Enoch “Nucky” Thompson, as the most hideous ruler of a city, following the teachings of the real life treasurer Enoch Johnson. Based on a real life time in history, the show aims to depict the time of the world where this corrupt treasurer manoeuvred his way through challenging situations and did not fear even the worst, while using his deceptive and obnoxious way of tackling the men of his ‘ruled’ nation and putting the country under his slavery. It was not long after the show’s debut that it was counted as one of the top shows in the category of ‘Best Writing in a New Series’. In addition to this, Boardwalk Empire has won the Golden Globe Award for the Best Dramatic Series. Having such great honours in its belly, Boardwalk Empire further throws light on various politically unjust and incorrect measures adopted by the politicians. This is one show that actually depicts a crystal clear image of the ancestral time in history and acts as a lesson for the many ignorant, in the present day world. With shocking realities of the Prohibition period, Boardwalk Empire leaves no room for an untouched subject in history. | |||||||||||||||||
